SPEED RUN NOTES
Xcw speed-run notes
Win condition
The attempt is won when the bite registers and the mosquito is back out of reach before the character turns. The strike alone is not the win — clearing the danger area before the warning flips is what closes the round.
Fastest line
Move in only while the warning indicator is down, bite once, and reverse on the same line. The fastest clear is a two-beat in-and-out — never linger to confirm the bite, because the confirm can be read while you are already retreating.
Input language
Each scene names its own input, but the pattern is mouse movement plus clicks, or touch drags and taps. Drag toward the target to close the gap, tap to bite, then hold the reverse direction to back out before the cue returns.
Opening play
Take one short drag toward the target and stop before biting. Watch whether that single step moves the warning indicator — the first seconds are for measuring how quickly the cue rises, not for finishing the bite.
Score signals
A bite that sticks shows a reaction-free pause — the indicator stays quiet and the target keeps still. The warning rising, or the character starting to turn, is the signal to reverse mid-approach even if you have not bitten yet.
Recovery
After a swat, halve the distance you commit and bite once the moment the cue drops. A failed long run means the window is shorter than your last read, so enter later, strike earlier, and reverse without waiting to confirm.
Player questions: Mosquito Bites
How do I control Mosquito Bites?
Drag the mosquito toward the target and tap to bite, then reverse on the same line before the warning flips. Whatever the scene's prompt, the rule stays: commit only while the indicator is down.
Is one long approach faster than several short bites?
No. The safe window closes faster than a long commitment, so a single bite plus a quick retreat beats one long run that ends in a swat and forces a restart.
