SPEED RUN NOTES
Xcw speed-run notes
Win condition
The run is won by reaching the end of the route without hitting an obstacle that resets progress. Items picked up along the way are a bonus, but the win is a clean line through every gap, not raw forward speed.
Fastest line
Read the next obstacle pair as one unit and pick the lane that stays open through both. Make one early slide into that lane and hold it — a single committed line clears faster than a chain of small corrections that each trigger more drift.
Input language
Forward travel and the floating bob are automatic; you steer by dragging left or right with the mouse or one finger. Keep each drag short and release early, because the float keeps carrying the direction you set for a moment after you let go.
Opening play
Before the first gap, give one small sideways input and watch how far the runner drifts after you release. That early read tells you how much lead time a lane change needs, so your first real dodge starts from a known drift distance.
Score signals
Passing an obstacle pair cleanly means the runner settles in the gap without clipping its edge. A tell that you are about to crash is a late, large drag that keeps sliding you toward the next obstacle after you have already cleared the first.
Recovery
If a dodge slides you too far, stop steering for a beat and let the float settle, then make one smaller correction into the next open lane. Chasing the line with repeated drags only adds drift — a single quiet correction re-centers you faster.
Player questions: Float Runners
How do I control Float Runners?
Drag left or right with the mouse or one finger to steer; forward motion and the float are automatic. Keep drags small and early, because the runner keeps drifting after you release.
Why does the runner keep drifting after I let go?
The float carries momentum, so your last direction persists for a moment after release. Steer earlier and let the drift settle before the next correction instead of dragging hard at the last second.
